Connie is one of the co-founders of Sports CLUB where she was vice president for nine years. She has a Bachelors Degree from Eastern Illinois University and a Masters Degree from University of South Florida. Prior to her involvement in Sports CLUB, Connie was a Physical Education teacher for fourteen years and a manager of Just Tennis retail specialty store . She also has background as a gymnastics coach, fitness instructor and Cheerleading Coach. In addition she holds a Director Credential for Childcare. Connie’s vast knowledge of Sports CLUB operations and extensive background with young children is vital to the direction and development of the Sport CLUB concept.
Gary Tripani is a retired gold seal New York City narcotics detective. Prior to being a member of the New York City police force, he was a navy veteran, work for a brokerage firm and then was a business owner. Gary is one of the founding Sports CLUB board members and he was instrumental in developing and supporting the Children Learning Ultimate Balance concept. He fully understands the importance of children having the opportunity for safe and healthy choices after school each day. Gary passion for sports, traditional family values, child safety and his knowledge of business have helped Sports CLUB grow into Collier County’s largest after school provider. He has lived in Naples since 1998 with his wife Loretta and his two sons Gary and Craig.
As owner and operator of JL McVey Building Co, Inc., James L. McVey brings nearly 30 years of construction industry experience and an established reputation to the company. His diverse range of projects through the years has included educational facilities, medical facilities, office buildings, government buildings, and retail, office, commercial and luxury residential projects.
James graduated from Texas A&M University in 1979 with a bachelor degree in business management. After working with several different builders for fifteen years, James recognized the opportunities of a growing SW Florida market place and launched Gates McVey Builders, Inc. in 1995. The company began as a general contracting firm and over the next 10 years, expanded into a real estate development company- enjoying extraordinary success. In 2004 James sold his entire interest in the organization and formed JL McVey Building Co., Inc. to pursue work as a personally focused boutique contractor / real estate developer in SW Florida. The company focuses on combining knowledge and experience with close individual attention to provide unmatched service in select commercial, retail, medical, office building and tenant improvements.
Sports CLUB values James’ outstanding business background, commitment to family, and desire to see all children have the opportunity to develop in a safe, caring environment so they can achieve ultimate balance. His wealth of experience will provide direction for Sports CLUB as the organization grows.
In his free time, James enjoys fishing. He makes his home in Naples, FL, with his wife, Jodell. The couple has three children.
Laura is a native of Naples and has been an elementary teacher in Collier County Schools since 1989. She has taught at four different schools and has had the opportunity to act as grade level team leader, SAC member and chairman of several school committees. Laura’s wealth of teaching experience gives her superior knowledge of the needs of the children of Collier County. Having had the opportunity to observe many after school programs, Laura fully endorses the Sports CLUB concept of Children Learning Ultimate Balance between academics and physical activity.
In addition to being an outstanding educator, Laura is a dedicated mom and is activity involved in community events. She volunteers for Relay for Life as well as The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She is also a volunteer photographer for Gulfshore Playhouse. Laura has two children, Kaity and David, who keep her very busy.
As a sales professional, business owner and educator, Mike’s has a diverse background and many talents. He fully understands and endorses the Sports CLUB mission of Children Learning Ultimate Balance between academics and physical activity.
Shortly after graduating from Kent State University in 1989, Mike moved to Naples where over the next thirteen years he became a successful teacher and administrator. Mike was an eleven time Golden Apple Teacher Nominee and taught at Vineyards Elementary School, one of the original Sports CLUB sites. He received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership form Florida Gulf Coast University in 2004. From 1996-2004 Mike was also the owner and operator of a successful Dairy Queen franchise. Since leaving the education field in 2005, he has become a record setting sale representative for GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals.
Mike is a goal driven professional, who understands the physical, academic and emotional needs of children. He has been instrumental in giving Sports CLUB the necessary direction and support to become the number one after school provider in Collier County.
WordPlay, Inc., a public relations and communications firm, was founded in January 2000 by Teresa A. Morgenstern. A native of Camp LeJeune, N.C., Morgenstern graduated from Ball State University, Muncie, Ind. with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism with specialties in sports and feature writing. She moved from Muncie to Naples in 1990. Prior to launching WordPlay, Inc., she was the public relations manager for WCI Communities and brings more than 15 years of industry experience. She was the 2006 president of the Public Relations Society of America/Gulf Coast Chapter, is the public relations director for the Taste of Collier, a Gulfshore Business magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 business professional for 2005, a two-time National Telly Award winner for script writing and a five-time Golden Image Award winner, Florida Public Relations Association, and has been selected for Leadership Collier, Class of 2010. She has also presented public relations seminars for PRSA, Florida Gulf Coast University and the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce.
