Lane Beatty

Lane Beatty earned his bachelor's degree in education from Central Michigan University (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) in 1983. He is the President of Sports CLUB. He has nearly 30 years of experience working with young children in various capacities. For almost 20 years he was an elementary physical education teacher and high school physical education teacher at several locations in South Florida. During this time he also was very involved with a variety of youth sports programs. As a teacher, Mr. Beatty saw a need for quality after school care in Collier County which eventually lead to the birth of Sports CLUB and the philosophy of Children Learning Ultimate Balance between academics and physical activity. After the program grew from two locations and only six students to several locations and hundreds of students, he decided to devote his full time energy to the program which now has over one-thousand registered students. He has been instrumental in getting after school care for needy families and also making after school care affordable for teachers and other school staff members. Additionally he has created a program that is not only child centered but also focuses on staff development and positive working conditions for after school employees. His devotion, time and effort has made after school care a special part of a child's day in many Collier County locations. Bill Carufe

Bill has a wealth of experience in, teaching, coaching, facilities planning, curriculum design, book consultation and writing program philosophy. Mr. Carufe currently focuses his energy, vision and talents at Sport CLUB as an administrator and program coordinator.

Prior to moving to Naples, Coach Carufe was an elementary physical education teacher, assistant football coach, JV baseball coach and varsity basketball coach for 14 years in upstate New York.He moved to Naples in 1998 and was employed by Gulf Coast High School as a high school physical education teacher, assistant football coach and junior varsity basketball coach. During his tenure at Gulf Coast High School, he was named Gulf Coast High School Coach of the Year, Gulf Coast High School Teacher of the Year and Collier County Public Schools High School Teacher of the Year.

In 2002, Carufe was named the Athletic Director and Varsity Basketball Coach at Community School and remained in those positions until 2008. During his tenure, Carufe guided the Seahawks Boys Varsity Basketball Team to a 125-37 record during his six seasons at CSN. During that time his teams won four district titles, a region runner up, a regional championship and made a state final four appearance. In January of 2007 his team was ranked number one in class 2A by the Florida Sports Writers Association. He was named 2A district coach of the year four times, and was twice named SFABC Boys coach of the year. He was also has been selected both the Naples Daily News and Ft. Myers News-Press Boy Basketball Coach of the year. Also while at CSN, was an integral part of adding new athletic facilities to the school. Additionally he guided the entire athletic program into prominence as Community School was name state 2A runner up in the Dodge Sunshine Cup all sports award in 2008.

Carufe is a Nationally Certified Teacher with a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from the State University of New York-College at Cortland. He also holds a Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA) and a Childcare Professional Staff Director Credential.

Misty Mixon

Misty has over fifteen years experience working with children in a variety of settings, and is also a licensed nurse in the State of Florida. She has been with Sports CLUB since 2003. In that time she has facilitated relationships with various children's social service organizations as well as other non-profit agencies throughout the community; all of whom have similar missions for improving the lives of children. She has served as a liaison between Collier County Public Schools and these organizations to ensure continuity of care for the children after the school day has ended. Misty also developed a partnership between Sports CLUB and the Joy of Giving which allows 1100 children receive holiday assistance each year and now volunteers as Vice President for that organization as well. Misty also organized and launched the Sports C.L.U.B. Scholarship program which currently provides over $500,000 in tuition assistance to families throughout Collier and Lee County as well as allowing children referred by The Foster Care Council to attend our summer camp programs. Additionally, she currently holds her Director Credential certification and she has training in government labor laws regulations, grant writing, and human resources.

Shonda Dewberry

Senior Director


Born and raised in Sebring, FL and graduated from Sebring High School. Has lived in Naples since 1996 and started her Child Care Profession. She currently holds CDA, Director Credential, First Aid & CPA trained. Has completed of 40 hour test including registered home day care and countless hours of on-going training. Shonda has one son, age 22 who attended Mt. Union College for one year obtaining a championship ring for football. He currently attends local college continuing his education in sports management.

Lynne Eastman

Academic Coordinator


Lynne Eastman has been a resident of Southwest Florida since 1987. Married for 36 years, she and her husband, Jim, have three children and four grandchildren. Lynne has 27 years of classroom experience at the elementary level. Prior to her retirement from teaching in 2009, Lynne taught for 20 years in the Collier County Public School system, and was regarded as one of the most outstanding elementary educators during her tenure. Lynne was trained by the National Literacy Coalition over the course of 3 years and served as a model classroom for the NLC from 1998-2001. Lynne worked with Collier County schools at the district level as one of the authors of the NLC writing initiative, implemented throughout the county. Additionally, she worked on various reading initiatives at the district level. Her expertise also includes conducting numerous trainings, and workshops for educators and administrators within Collier County, as well as Lee, Palm Beach and Dade County, during her years as an educator with CCPS. In 2003, Lynne achieved her National Board Certification in Elementary Education. During the same year, she was also honored to receive the prestigious Golden Apple Teacher Award.
